This code is HAILCAST redesigned as a 3D hail trajectory model for use inside a steady-state storm. Download the code here.


This code requires as input a NetCDF file containing steady-state three-dimensional fields of the following:

You also choose an embryo size and initial position. The trajectory model moves the hailstone through the storm until it reaches one of the edges of the model domain.

At each internal hail model timestep, interesting characteristics are written out to a text file. They currently include time, hailstone position, hailstone diameter and ice-only diameter, hailstone density, hailstone temperature, wet/dry growth mode, hailstone water fraction, hailstone terminal velocity, and in-cloud ice and liquid water mixing ratio and temperature at hailstone point.
